چکیده

In 1883, while a student of C. S. Peirce at Johns Hopkins University, Christine Ladd-Franklin published a paper titled On the Algebra of Logic, in which she develops an elegant and powerful test for the validity of syllogisms that constitutes the most significant advance in syllogistic logic in two thousand years.1 Sadly, her work has been all but forgotten by logicians and historians of logic. Ladd-Franklin’s achievement has been overlooked, partly because it has been overshadowed by the work of other logicians of the nineteenth century renaissance in logic, but probably also because she was a woman.2 Though neglected, the significance of her contribution to the field of symbolic logic has not been diminished by subsequent achievements of others. In this paper, I bring to light the important work of Ladd-Franklin so that she is justly credited with having solved a problem over two millennia old. First, I give a brief survey of the history of syllogistic logic. In the second section, I discuss the logical systems called “algebras of logic”. I then outline Ladd-Franklin’s algebra of logic, discussing how it differs from others, and explain her test for the validity of the syllogism, both in her symbolic language and the more familiar language of modern logic. Finally,

Application of Wavelet Neural Network in Forward Kinematics Solution of 6-RSU Co-axial Parallel Mechanism Based on Final Prediction Error

Application of artificial neural network (ANN) in forward kinematic solution (FKS) of a novel co-axial parallel mechanism with six degrees of freedom (6-DOF) is addressed in Current work. The mechanism is known as six revolute-spherical-universal (RSU) and constructed by 6-RSU co-axial kinematic chains in parallel form. First, applying geometrical analysis and vectorial principles the kinematic...

Approximate Solution of Sensitivity Matrix of Required Velocity Using Piecewise Linear Gravity Assumption

In this paper, an approximate solution of sensitivity matrix of required velocity with final velocity constraint is derived using a piecewise linear gravity assumption. The total flight time is also fixed for the problem. Simulation results show the accuracy of the method. Increasing the midway points for linearization, increases the accuracy of the solution, which this, in turn, depends on the...

Integrated Procurement, Production and Delivery Scheduling in a Generalized three Stage Supply Chain

In this research, we investigate a three-stage supply chain with one supplier, several manufacturers and multiple retailers where the supplier provides a common raw material to each manufacturer, who in turn uses a single stage production facility to convert it into final products that are delivered at fixed lot sizes to retailers. An integrated economic procurement, production, and delivery mo...

A hybrid solution approach for a multi-objective closed-loop logistics network under uncertainty

The design of closed-loop logistics (forward and reverse logistics) has attracted growing attention with the stringent pressures of customer expectations, environmental concerns and economic factors. This paper considers a multi-product, multi-period and multi-objective closed-loop logistics network model with regard to facility expansion as a facility location–allocation problem, which more cl...

A Note on Solving Prandtl's Integro-Differential Equation

A simple method for solving Prandtl's integro-differential equation is proposed based on a new reproducing kernel space. Using a transformation and modifying the traditional reproducing kernel method, the singular term is removed and the analytical representation of the exact solution is obtained in the form of series in the new reproducing kernel space. Compared with known investigations, its ...
